LHS alumni Derek Brown and his NFL career

LHS alumni, Derrick Brown, has started his sophomore NFL season. After an eye opening rookie season in which Brown recorded 34 tackles with two sacks and eight tackles for loss (TFL). His sophomore season has begun with eight tackles, a sack and two TFL throughout four games.
Derrick Brown was drafted seventh overall in the 2020 draft, out of Auburn. Brown was a day one starter and quickly made an impact by making Dwayne Haskins (Former Washington Football team starting quarterback) and Taylor Heinicke (Current Washington football team starting quarterback) panic and playing a part in the two interceptions thrown by Haskins. He wasn’t able to record a sack but you could just tell from the start that he was going to make an impact. The Carolina Panthers Defensive Coordinator, Phil Snow, had this to say about Derrick Brown, “He’s exactly what we thought he is… He’s a big physical man inside and obviously, he’s really effective against the run game… Obviously he will get better every week and he’s getting better every week. We’re really happy with him.” Many people agree that Derrick Brown continues to impress on the professional stage.
The LHS alumnus is still very early in his career, and is already making an impact on a Panthers defense that has only allowed under 20 points in every game this season except for one. The Panthers are sitting at three and one this season with Derrick Brown alongside Daquan Jones, Morgan Fox and Brian Burns as the Panthers big four on defense, the Panthers have only allowed 380 yards rushing on the year. Derrick Brown is killing it as a pro and LHS is proud to call him a Longhorn.
