Christmas Movies

With all of the classic original Christmas movies, it is definitely hard for people to pick just one as their favorite. But what would people consider to be the best? After gathering lots of votes for many different movies, the movie Elf won the title for best Christmas movie.
Elf is about a baby (Buddy) who crawled into Santa’s bag in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve. Santa didn’t realize that Buddy crawled into his bag and took him back to the North Pole. Since he was already at the North Pole and Santa didn’t know where Buddy came from, he just kept him and raised him at the North Pole as an elf. As Buddy got older and older, he kept getting bigger. He had no idea that he wasn’t an elf, until one day he heard some of the other elves talking about him and how he was human. After Buddy finds out that he is actually human, he takes this long trip from the North Pole to New York to find his real dad.
According to Movie House Memories, “In Elf, Buddy was an orphan who wound up in Santa’s sack, and made it all the way back to the North Pole with him. Santa’s elves took him in, and raised him as one of their own. Once grown, Buddy was too large to remain with them all up north. Santa lets him go to New York City where he sets out to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs. Unfortunately, Hobbs is on Santa’s naughty list because he’s a heartless [jerk]. He doesn’t even have any idea that Buddy is alive or his kid. Once in the Big Apple, Buddy experiences the town through the eyes of an elf which causes problems. In time, Walter’s relationship with Buddy causes him to reevaluate his life and his life’s priorities.”
Many people love this movie because of how Buddy is very bubbly, funny, and kind of stupid in the real world. Since he lived in the North Pole, surrounded by elves, most of his life, he didn’t know how to act in the real world. One of the best scenes in this movie is when Buddy sees “Santa” at the mall and freaks out, until he realizes that it’s not actually Santa, but a Santa imposter. After Buddy realizes this, he starts telling all of the kids that it isn’t actually Santa. The imposter gets very mad and ends up starting a fight with Buddy. Another classic scene that many people love is Buddy’s spaghetti scene. This scene is so iconic; if you don’t know it, then you probably live under a rock. Buddy uses leftover spaghetti and puts so many goodies in it. He puts maple syrup, chocolate syrup, M&Ms, marshmallows, and a chocolate fudge Pop Tart.
In the movie, Will Ferrell portrayed Buddy the elf. To most people, he played this role perfectly, and it wouldn’t be the same if the creators of the movie casted someone else.
Overall, it was very difficult for people to pick just one Christmas movie as their favorite because of how many classics there are. Although Elf was the winner, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any other amazing Christmas movies out there, such as The Grinch, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Home Alone, and so many others. I don’t know how people could pick just one.
