These stories come up all the time: a couple goes on a trip then one ends up missing.
The Gabby Petito case seems a bit strange though. If you’re still interested, keep reading to find out what happened, what we know now, and at the very end, people’s opinion on it.

Gabby Petito was a 22-year-old woman who went missing after going on a trip with her fiancé, Brian Lauderie. The couple were highschool sweethearts, with Distractify stating, “Gabby and Brian met at Bayport-Blue Point High School in Long Island. At the start of their relationship, Gabby was a sophomore, and Brian was a junior.” The pair were reportedly very toxic at some points, with the article also stating, “Friends of the couple spoke with People, saying that it was difficult for them to know if they were together because of how often Gabby and Brian broke up and got back together.”

What happened to Gabby Petito?
In the summer, the pair decided to go on a cross-country trip together in a van. According to Petito’s Instagram, everything seemed fine. However, according to reports, things went south. Reports say that there was a domestic dispute between the two. According to YAHOO! News, “Utah police considered charging Gabby Petito with domestic violence after a fight with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie.” This was two days before she went missing. She was reported missing by her parents, who had not heard from their daughter and were suspicious of Laundries behavior. Many people believe that he had something to do with her disappearance because of his behavior after she was reported missing.. Two days after being reported missing by her parents, Brian Laundrie went missing after telling his parents he was going on a hike in the Florida Carlton Reserve. Suspicious, right?

Everything else you need to know:
The current status of the case is this: Petito and Laundrie’s remains were both found. Gabby was found in Wyoming, the last place she was seen and her death was ruled a homicide by strangulation. Laundrie was found in a Florida reserve. The cause of his death was officially ruled a suicide, after an autopsy and being examined by a forensic anthropologist. There is new information coming out every day about this case. However, this is all we know so far.

Now, what does the school think about this case? I asked people around the school what they think about this and here were some answers.

“I think that he is guilty because there is too much evidence that points to him, and if he wasn’t guilty why did he run.” – Alexis Diggs

“I think that this is a warning sign for teens in relationships, nobody controls you, nobody owns you, i think [Gabby] missed a lot of red flags in their relationship.” – Anonymous

“I feel like we really don’t know enough right now, but there is a lot of evidence saying that he did do it. However we have seen cases in the past where we thought somebody committed a crime but we find out once they go to court that that’s sometimes not the case. Everybody deserves to have their time in court to be judged by the jury and their peers, but there is a lot of evidence that leads toward that he did actually commit the murder.” – Mr. Green
