When should you decorate for Christmas?

Christmas Decorations

Have you ever walked into a store mid-September to be faced with an overwhelming amount of Christmas decorations? Not only shops, but also people have been known to decorate beyond early, which leaves you thinking: when is the appropriate time to bring out the holiday decorations? Personally, I think the best time to have your house Christmas-ready is either the week of or after Thanksgiving.
I read an article, “When to Decorate for Christmas. Ideas & Inspiration,” that stated that, “No matter what Christmas decoration ideas you have, the ideal time to decorate for Christmas is the following weekend of Thanksgiving. If you’re still wondering how early is too early, stick to the rule that putting up Christmas decorations anytime before Halloween is too early.” Another article I read, “When to Start Decorating for Christmas. Ideas & Inspiration by Tiny Prints,” said, “Most people start decorating for Christmas after Thanksgiving. Some people choose to wait until December 1st for some decorations because they are specific to the month.” Personally, I agree with this. While Christmas is many people’s favorite holiday, many people get too caught up in it, leaving holidays like Thanksgiving and Halloween underappreciated. It can also be inconvenient when you go to the store around October and see the store stocked with more Christmas decorations than Halloween decorations.
“When you are trying to decide when to decorate, you should also take into consideration what kind of tree you have,” according to “When to Start Decorating for Christmas. Ideas & Inspiration by Tiny Prints.” A real tree lasts four to five weeks on average, making after Thanksgiving the most convenient time to decorate while allowing your tree to last in a timely manner. On the other hand, if you’re a faux tree type of person, this isn’t a problem for you.
If having Christmas decorations up year-round was socially acceptable, I’m sure a large percentage of Christmas lovers would never take them down; however, there’s an appropriate time for everything. Any time before Halloween is without a doubt too early. Some people also like to decorate their homes the week of Thanksgiving when they’re having company over for Thanksgiving, so the house is fun and festive just in time for the feast!
In conclusion, while I believe the perfect time to decorate is after Thanksgiving, it honestly comes down to the person and their personal preferences.
