The week of February 2nd, Mr. Reilly and the Lanier Lego robotics team went to elementary schools to teach younger kids about coding and to inspire them to want to code when they grow older. “FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation,” says member, Leah Rampergash. “Seeing those elementary robotics students perform so well and seeing how well mannered they were truly reminded us what we do all of the FLL [First Lego League] outreach for.”
Founded by Mr. Reilly, the Lego Robotics team has been here at Lanier High School for about four years. He started the team to mentor the FLL teams at elementary schools during their competition season just to make sure they are fully supported. The team also raises money for each elementary school team within the Lanier cluster, and the middle school’s FIRST Tech Challenge team.
To join the team, show up to Mr. Reilly’s room in the CDAT hall. They’re here every day until 6pm after school during the second semester, and were here every Wednesday until 4 during the first semester. If this is something you’re interested in, don’t be afraid to show up. They’d love to have you.
