Junie B. Jones is coming to Lanier’s theatre department

This semester, Lanier High School’s musical theatre class is putting on Junie B. Jones, The Musical. The musical is based off of the nostalgic series of Junie B. Jones books written by Barbara Park. According to Wikipedia, “the story centers on “almost six-year-old” Junie B. Jones and her adventures in kindergarten and first grade.” I spoke with the cast and crew to see their thoughts on the preparation for this show, and they had a lot to say:
Nuriyah Irizarry, a senior at LHS, is the show’s musical director. In the preparation of a musical, the musical director teaches the cast their music and teaches them how to perform it to the best of their ability. With it being Irizarry’s first time as a musical director, I asked her what her goals were for this show. “I just want to mainly get everyone’s music learned as quickly as possible, so that we’ll have extra time to work on the nitty gritty parts,” she explained.
I also spoke with Jade Lewis-Tinsley, a senior at LHS, who will be playing the role of Lucille. I asked her what her favourite part of her character was, and she said, “My character is very sassy and preppy, so I think it will be a fun new role to play.”
I also got the opportunity to see the set of the show, which seems to be coming along extraordinarily well. The date for this show is March 26th, with two performances that day, one at 3:00 pm and the other at 7:00 pm. We hope for the best for this show, and can’t wait to see it on the stage!
