Lanier’s football program has undergone major changes over the last few months as they prepare for the upcoming 2022-23 season including a rotation of coaches on the offensive line and a new head coach.

For the upcoming season, the reputable and experienced, Tyler Maloof, will be occupying the position of head coach. He comes from a long line of football coaches with his grandfather starting the legacy and his father and uncle pursuing it as high school head coaches themselves. Since 2017, Maloof has served under his father, Kieth Maloof, as an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Norcross High School. This January, he decided to make the 13-mile journey to the Ranch to complete our coaching lineup and attain a well-deserved promotion.

Apart from having extensive coaching experience, he has also been on the athlete side of things. He understands sports at the high school level as he was a two-sport athlete at Norcross High School where he played football and baseball. Furthermore, he understands higher levels of sports as he played collegiate baseball at the University of Georgia and was an MLB draft pick for the Cleveland Indians. His college background is a great resource for the athletes at Lanier because he has experienced the recruiting process firsthand, and he knows what it takes to play at the next level. Maloof will be able to connect with his athletes on a more personal level because he knows the stress, pressure, and anxiety that goes hand-in-hand with playing sports. As a first-year, and relatively young, a head coach position at Lanier is the perfect place for him because it is also a very young program compared to other schools in the region. With this being said, he has the opportunity to build up the football program here at Lanier and build a foundation for future coaches and athletes.

Without being able to speak with Maloof firsthand, I turned to his athletes for feedback. Lanier’s future quarterback, Preston Ratliff, had exciting things to say about Maloof’s coaching style: “I expect to throw the ball a lot more and have a much faster paced offense so that we can, hopefully, score a lot more points and win more games.” For Lanier fans, this is exciting news, but that isn’t all. Preston continued to say, “I think because of Coach Maloof’s play calling style, we will run quick screens and go no huddle for a lot more plays.”

Apart from athletes having high hopes for his style of coaching, they also enjoy Coach Maloof as a person. Multiple players around the school, such as Rylan Haight, Sebastian Ball, and Braden Richards have made it clear what a “respectable and cool guy” Maloof is and how excited they are to have him as an active part of the team.

The community is very excited for Maloof to be the new face of Lanier football. We can’t wait to see what he does, and we wish him the best of luck in his endeavors!
