Spring is now here, and people will begin to adventure in the great outdoors. One of the best activities to do in the spring is hiking. Hiking is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. Here in Georgia, there are many hiking trails and parks to go explore, and there are many parks around Georgia.
One of the most popular hiking destinations in Georgia is Amicalola Falls State Park located between Ellijay and Dahlonega in Dawsonville. The park’s name is due to the waterfall (one of the highest in Georgia). The hiking trails lead into Appalachian Trail, so if you are the type of person that likes to take long walks, then this would be perfect for you. Because you are surrounded by nature and have the sight of the waterfall, Amicalola Park is an absolute must-go. The 15.5-mile roundtrip is an extensive hike, but an enjoyable one. All you have to do is pay a $5 park fee and bring hiking shoes.
One of the most delightful hiking trails for people that love the mountains and absolutely adore beautiful views would be the Sawnee Mountains Indian Trail. This hike, not only full of surprises with amazing views, but was also a mining location in the 1800s when the Cherokee tribe was looking for gold. Most of the best hiking trails in Georgia can be found in North Georgia, due to the fact that there are more mountains and rivers in the North than in the South, but Sweetwater Creek State Park offers a peaceful hike through the woods. The recreational area includes the Civil War ruins, which are not only interesting, but also give the park background and story to the locality. The park is dog-friendly, so you can bring your canine friends to enjoy the hike as well. The hike runs through a beautiful creek that gives the park its name. There are many hiking trails in Georgia that are beautiful and adventurous and are in need of exploring. Here are some honorable mentions: Cochran Shoals Trail, East Palisades Trail, Brasstown Bald, Skidaway Island Trails, etc. This spring is a great time to go outside and explore these trails and take a breather from the rest of the world and enjoy the beauty of nature.
